Choosing A Roof Type For Your Building Or Home

It doesn't matter where you live.  Your flat roof will either get roasting hot or freezing cold depending on the weather. If it is too hot, the air conditioner will run and run costing a fortune in electrical bills.
Since people everywhere are searching for ways to help the environment, they are taking action to use many systems entailing the use of green products everywhere in their homes from their roof to the basement. For instance, when a home has a flat roof that needs to be repaired, the flat roof membrane with extra insulation is going to be good for the Earth and is certainly going to keep you cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

There are various types of roof such as low pitch and you cannot put a conventional type of shingle on this roof because rain water will not drain away fast enough. For the low slope roof which is a roof with a pitch that goes up 3 inches for every 12 inches you go up, would need to be installed with glue or contact cement and single-ply EPDM rubber roofing can be used on the structure. This type of roofing is gaining in popularity and is guaranteed for at least 20 - 25 years.

You will want to repair your flat roof membrane combining a PVC, EPDM rubber with a polyester fleece backing on your home or shed when the weather is decent. This is usually best when put on in one large sheet, but as long as it is sealed properly and maintained yearly, it will last for a long time.  It is going to expand up to 300% in extreme heat while adhering to the roof and lasting for years because it resists tearing.

The old coal tar roofs and metal roofs are still on buildings today, but as they become obsolete, modern products will take their place in the roofing business. If you have a mansard roof that has 2 slopes on each side which has lots of room for an attic underneath, you have a very interesting home, which the roofing professional will explain all the details of the new roofing materials being used today and how you should replace this style of roof.

Built Up Roofing Options

By Andrew Carnigie
The flat, built up roof is becoming popular, especially on large applications because of its cost. Flat roofs are simple both to construct and to finish of with waterproofing. They are popular in warm areas. A flat roof is not a good choice in areas with large snowfall because the snow will just accumulate on the roof and not shed like a sloped roof. Pooled water from leaking snow causes water damage, and too much snow weight may cause the roof to fail.
